The Brains and the Brawn

Jaquelyn “Jackie” Aguila is not only a hard working student but also a fierce competitor on the Girl’s Volleyball Team at ODLH. With this comes challenges that she needs to overcome. Some of the challenges Jackie faces are being consistent with her sets and serves calling it her “weakness” and yet she tries to improve so that she can give her  100% on the court. “I stretch as much as I can, so I don’t pull a muscle…I try my best to not get into my head, that’s the last thing you want to do to yourself while playing, after all it’s a group effort” she explained. Not to mention, juggling both sports and school can be a hand-full. She said that classwork can be difficult when she doesn’t fully understand the subject at hand. Nevertheless, she stays consistent in order to get everything done, knowing that it might not always be correct but something is better than nothing. Furthermore, something that comes easy to her would be being vocal with her teammates and comprehending what her role is on the team. For example, knowing where she should be at all times on the court so she’s always anticipating. Lastly, Jackie leaves students with this advice, “Don’t stress yourself out too much and don’t be afraid to reach out to your peers for help.”
