She creates a connection with each of her students, does her best to listen to her students and meet their needs. Many students admire her and thank her that she was very understanding to them.

Adrienne believes that honesty is the best trait to have when being a teacher.

I truly think students admire me because I keep it very real and honest. Many times, adults like to sprinkle sugar to make life seem better or easier than it can be for children, but I don’t think this prepares children for the realness of the world” explained Adrienne.

Adrienne enjoys being a big part of her students life; she believes that relationships are an important part of her mission.

“The best part of being a teacher is connecting with students and their families. Everyone has a story to tell and a story they’re in the middle of writing, I love being part of this journey”

Although Adrienne likes to be part of her students life, she wonders how would her life would if she pursed a different career.

I thought about and think about it often. I am currently in a position where I have stepped out of my classroom position. I work in data assessments and provide it for school admin and their teachers. I love the education space and know there’s much work to do in it. I wonder if I leave, will I be able to come back?

Although Adrienne Kim is not a middle school teacher anymore she has fond memories of those days. She shares that honesty is an important part of having a connection with someone. Adrienne leaves us with these words of wisdom, “Complete each day to the fullest; don’t let your emotions drive how you live. One bad day or bad event doesn’t define you. Make your life a story you want, enjoy. Be kind and gentle, everyone is fighting their own demons.”
